As we settle into October, there’s one day of the month everyone looks forward to – Halloween. But there’s a more important cause that goes on throughout the entirety of the month, and thousands show their support of it across the world.

We are, of course, talking about Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time of year when we’re educated on how to check for symptoms, the treatment behind it, and some of the lesser-known facts about breast cancer come to light.

As specialist cancer carers, we wholeheartedly support this cause at Notaro Care Homes. Our incredible staff are trained to look after sufferers of all types to the best of their ability, and we often have GP visits for regular check-ups at our homes.

As you may have seen on our social media, we’ve already touched on a few of these facts, but for those who haven’t seen them, take a look below.

Firstly, making up a whopping 12% of all new cases in 2021, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer globally. This figure is even higher in the UK, making up 15% of new cases. However, 23% of breast cancer cases are preventable, and therefore curable.

While being extremely rare, men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer. Approximately 350 men are diagnosed in the UK each year.

Thankfully, due to extensive research and treatments, breast cancer has the highest survival rate ever. Now, 76% of people diagnosed with breast cancer survive for 10 or more years. With your help, this can continue to grow.

On Friday, October 21st, we’ll be supporting Wear It Pink Day, and we hope you can join us. All you have to do is wear a pink item of clothing! Whether you’re doing it to raise money, awareness, or both, this truly is such an easy cause to get involved in.
