Daughters Gill Dunn and Sue Spurway from Ilminster are partaking in the Alzheimer’s Society Ben Nevis Midnight challenge in July 2014. Gill, an Executive PA at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton and Sue who works at Swanmead Community School, Ilminster, will be climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, at night. They will make the climb by torch and moonlight which adds significantly to the challenge. Once they’ve reached the top, they will witness the sunrise and the spectacular landscape below. Their motivation to reach this peak is their dad, Pat Hodges, once a well-known Ilminster sportsman who now suffers from vascular dementia and is cared for at our Aspen Court Nursing Home.

Gill and Sue said that it has been hard seeing someone so precious to their family go through dementia and the resulting changes to their behaviour and personality. “This has made us determined to do something for Alzheimer’s Society and to know we will be raising funds to help support people with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow. We would also like to highlight the work of family and friends when caring for someone with dementia”. Events have been held to fund Gill and Sue’s climb, and any sponsorship; will be much appreciated. To sponsor the pair online visit www.justgiving.com/Gillian-Susan
