Paying for Care

You may be entitled to some help in paying care fees depending on your personal circumstances.

Useful information can be found on the official UK Government website for citizens: www.direct.gov.uk

There are other websites which may be helpful, two of which are listed below. Please be aware that some websites offering advice on paying care fees have been established by or are linked to providers of financial products.

The following sections introduce some sources of funds which may be available to you:

  • Local Authority Social Services Funding

If you have had a needs assessment indicating that you require care in a care home for a period of time, the local authority will then make a financial assessment to decide whether you qualify for assistance with paying your care home fees.

  • NHS Continuing Care Funding

If your needs are primarily for health care and you live in a care home providing nursing care, you may qualify for the full cost of your care under the National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare.

  • Disability Benefits

You may have difficulty walking or getting about, or with personal care such as dressing or washing, or with your hearing or sight. You could get extra money to help you.

To check if you are entitled to disability benefits than please visit Direct Gov’s website: www.direct.gov.uk

    Or contact Direct Gov benefit enquiry line: Telephone: 0800 88 22 00 or Textphone: 0800 24 33 55
