Alcohol past & present support services

Serenita is a specialist unit providing medium and long term residential care and rehabilitation for 34 people over 45 years of age who live with the effects of alcohol related problems such as Korsakoff's syndrome. Services are not provided to people who continue to abuse alcohol.

The home

The home is located in the seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare. It is within walking distance of local shops and other amenities such as Beach Lawns and the seafront with its many attractions. The large communal areas in this exceptionally spacious home contribute to the noticeably relaxed atmosphere.

Support

Each person admitted to the home is carefully assessed.  We aim with the resident's involvement to put in place a package of care and support that will enable that person to be as independent as possible. Through providing a safe secure and supportive environment we aim to help people achieve personal aspirations and maximise their abilities. We encourage links with a resident's family, often lost when lives are disrupted by alcohol abuse, to be re-established. The extent to which people can recover from alcohol related brain damage is variable, but we always try to go beyond just providing a safe home and put rehabilitation at the forefront of what we try to achieve. We encourage former skills and interests to be regained and provide opportunities for new experiences to enrich the lives of our residents.
