Work Starts
Preliminary work on the site of our latest purpose built care home has started at Foldhill Lane in Martock. The home will be comprised of single story accommodation units. The 2 larger units will contain 24 and 22 beds for nursing dementia. The third 5 bed unit is intended for people with learning difficulties.
To help the buildings blend into the rural setting they will each have a sedum roof. Sedum is the succulent plant you may have growing in your garden with variable green foliage and occasionally subtle reddish tinges brought on by our more extreme weather conditions. White, pink and yellow flowers bloom on sedums from June onwards through the summer. We hope this will make the buildings magnets for butterflies, other insects and the associated wildlife that will follow.
All rooms in the accommodation units will have their own external door to safe, secure garden and patio areas.
The site will have a pond which again we hope will benefit local wildlife and maintain and improve biodiversity.
We are planning to have a residents' farm on site similar to our much acclaimed Benvenuto Fattoria feature at Immacolata House in Langport. Here our residents will be able to interact with animals such as lop eared rabbits, bantam chickens, pigs, goats, alpacas, turkeys and Indian Runner ducks.
We hope you will enjoy watching our progress via our website using 2 webcams that are planned to be online in the next couple of weeks.
