Steve Spreads the Word

Westland's School students, Gemma and Jenna, have just finished a stint at Vane Hill Care Home as part of their work experience programme.

"It has been a huge learning curve for the both of us and has put the effects of alcohol in perspective," they said.

Gemma and Jenna wrote to manager, Steve Todd, to thank him for the support they had received whilst on the placement.

They commented that both staff and residents had left a lasting impression upon them. "Not only are the staff fantastic, but the residents are too," they said. "They made us feel welcome and involved."

Steve is a leading advocate of the potential dangers of excess alcohol and binge drinking and includes students on work experience at Vane Hill as one of the ways to spread the word.

"I speak to students at schools whenever I have the opportunity." said Steve. "Many people are not aware that alcohol can leave you with brain damage and it is not unusual for people in their Thirties to have permanent memory impairment. My aim is to make young people aware of the dangers"
